Bylaw Amendments to CCIAOR Membership Requirements Pass

In March 2022, members passed amendments to membership requirements for both existing and new CCIAOR members. 448 members voted with over 70% voting in favor of the amendments. Information on the amendments can be found here.

What do these changes mean for existing members?

The bylaw changes require existing REALTOR® members to take the CE class Protecting the Protected Classes or receive NAR’s At Home with Diversity Certification within the current Code of Ethics Cycle which runs from January 1st, 2022 through December 31st, 2024. Note that completion of either requirement in 2021 will count toward the 2022-2024 cycle requirement.

For subsequent three-year Code of Ethics cycles (i.e. January 1st, 2025 through December 31st, 2027), CCIAOR members would be required to complete one (1) of the following:

  • Fair Housing CE class

  • Protecting the Protected Classes CE class

  • NAR’s At Home with Diversity Certification.

Note the CCIAOR Board of Directors has the ability to approve additional training and classes that will meet the requirement beyond what is listed above.

How can I complete the new requirement?

All existing members will need to take Protecting the Protected Classes or receive NAR’s At Home with Diversity Certification by December 31st, 2024 to stay in compliance with the membership requirements.

We will be rolling out a new online education platform in the coming months where members can take the Protected the Protected Classes CE class online on-demand, which will allow you to take the class online at your convenience. Additionally, we are also planning live offerings of the course starting in Fall 2022 and at regular intervals throughout the requirement cycle.

Upcoming class offerings can be found below:

What do these changes mean for new members?

The bylaw changes require new members joining the Association to take the following two (2) CE classes in addition to New Member Orientation and Code of Ethics within 120 days of joining: 1) Protecting the Protected Classes and 2) Getting Started in Cape & Islands Real Estate (new class to be created that would address key legal/ethical and local RE issues for new members). The requirements will be rolled out to new members in the coming months.
